It is the only temple in Ayutthaya that the Burmese never destroyed in the 1767 sack of the city, so it is still a living, functioning monastery rather than a ruin, and it houses a rare green stone Buddha image believed to be over 1,500 years old from the Dvaravati period, one of only five such seated images known in Thailand.
